Today is the 56th anniversary of the March on Washington, a monumental occasion in itself and as the event where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream: speech. I don’t now about any of y’all, but it can be so easy for me to get wrapped up in pessimism about my own life and the state of world affairs that I forget what’s possible and don’t really allow myself to dream. But today, we remember a man and a while movement that fought tenaciously for civil rights, pushed outside of the narrow paradigm of the time, and showed the world what radical idealism could look like. We can only hope to embody such a powerful force for change and possibility today.
